Saturday, June 4th - Building Bridges!

Yooo, today was my first day back working on-site and it was incredible. There were only a couple of workers there so it was pretty easy to get into a good rhythm pouring the columns up to the ground floor.

After finishing columns we headed back home to eat and prepare our first community engagement activity-- Bridge Building! We gave the kids popsicle sticks, construction paper, glue, and other building materials to build a bridge. They had to use the materials wisely though because everything had a price and budget was one of the factors in the final judging. We split up the community into 4 teams and gave them 30 mins to plan and build their bridges. The bridges were put to the test by visual inspection, earthquake simulation, and testing if they could support the weight of a “truck”.

All the teams worked together beautifully but in the end, Ken named David’s team as the winner. The activity went so well that we plan on doing a similar activity next week, but this time with skyscrapers!

Next week is going to be tough when David and Katelyn return to Texas, but the rest of the team is excited to finish the project strong.

Love,

Zach
